A whole heart
"As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind…” - 1 CHRONICLES 28:9
Parents understand when they don’t have their kids’ full attention. “You will brush your teeth,” says a mother. “Yes, ma'am,” answers the youngster, merrily scouring her two front teeth only.
Such was the commitment level at one point in colonial America. Children born to church members were enrolled in membership, whether they had made a commitment to Christ or not through the “halfway covenant.”
In 1727, New Jersey pastor Theodore Frelinghuysen declared the only people who could take the Lord’s Supper at the church he served were people whose changed lives showed they had received Jesus Christ. Controversy erupted, but so did revival.
A whole-hearted person is one with no hidden agendas. There is no room for other gods because the whole-hearted person’s entire devotion is to the true and living God!
