Dead flies

August 13, 2018
Dead flies make a perfumer's oil stink, so a little foolishness is weightier than wisdom and honor. - ECCLESIASTES 10:1

Foolishness is to the heart what dead flies are in perfume. You order a glass of iced tea and lemon in a restaurant. You add sweetener, and stir. Suddenly, you spy an object in the little tempest. On close examination, you see it’s not a lemon seed, but a fly! You give him the waiter the tea glass, pointing out the fly. The waiter takes a spoon, flips out the fly carcass, and gives you back the glass. But you demand a fresh glass of tea. The presence of the fly corrupted the whole thing.

In Ecclesiastes, Solomon tells us that a silly indiscretion spoils a life’s reputation. A teenager goes on a joyride in a stolen car, and the mistake tracks him for life.  A shopper bags a $20 tee shirt, and she is labeled a thief the rest of her days. Make wise choices now. Don’t let a single fly land in your heart. It will pollute your entire life.
