Focus on your true home

“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud voice and said, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?’” – Luke 1:41-43

C. S. Lewis once said that fish never feel uncomfortable in water. Isn’t that interesting? “Water is their natural habitat,” he said. “Fish never feel wet!”

Perhaps that is what explains why Christians often feel uncomfortable in this world. It is because this world is not our natural habitat. There is something in each of us that senses that there is life beyond this life. There is a world where justice reigns and where there is harmony and peace. There is a world where violence doesn’t exist. And we have a hunger for this other world – God’s world.

The Christmas story tells us that we can be part of God’s world forever. When Jesus came into our world, He bridged the gap between our “unnatural” habitat and our true home. Thank God for sending Jesus to show us where we truly belong – and for the perfect destination that is promised to all who trust in Him.
