Risk factors (Part 2)

September 14, 2018
And behold, a woman comes to meet him, dressed as a harlot and cunning of heart … "Come, let us drink our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with caresses. For my husband is not at home, he has gone on a long journey …” - PROVERBS 7:10, 18-19

Risks to heart health are sly as the aims of the seducer. Yesterday we examined double-mindedness, heredity and neglect. Another risky factor is poor spiritual diet, the “Corinthian syndrome.” Paul lamented that the church there could only stomach spiritual milk when he wanted to serve a feast of meats. (1 CORINTHIANS 3:1-2) We need substantial spiritual food, and not just “fast faith.”

Also risky is a spiritually sedentary lifestyle. The spiritual “couch potato” is a person who does not “work out” their salvation through deliberate acts of ministry. (PHILIPPIANS 2:12) The “spiritual muscles” aren’t developed, leaving the heart weak.

Fear of failure is a risk to the health of the spiritual heart. Even the Apostle Paul acknowledged he hadn’t “arrived” spiritually, and wrote that he “pressed on” in the goal of God’s call. (PHILIPPIANS 3:13-14) Don’t let the fact you’re not “perfect” yet, stop you from growing. Silence the voice of the seducer. Get rid of the risks to your heart’s health!

TODAY’S FOCUS
