Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" Peter said to them, “Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the LORD our God shall call to Himself.”
-ACTS 2:37-39
You know you’ve been heard when your audience asks, “Wow! What should we do about this?”
In his Pentecost sermon, Peter pierces the hearts of listeners. “God has made the man you crucified both Lord and Christ,” he tells them, and they answer, “What should we do?”
Zing! Right into the heart! Now those who had mocked the dying LORD melt under the truth of His love. Hebrews 4 says God’s Word is a two-edged sword, cutting on entry and exit. The Word says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our LORD” (Romans 6:23).
Believer’s hearts are pierced with the message that our sin crucified Christ. The proof that the sword of the Word has stabbed your heart is being compelled to ask, “What should I do about this?”
