The pure heart
But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. - 1 TIMOTHY 1:5
Jack was a bruiser, boozer, and womanizer. Then he met Jesus Christ and his life got turned inside-out and upside down.
“Jack,” I asked him several years after he had received Christ, “what’s been the best thing about walking with Jesus?”
“I’m no longer afraid,” he answered. I was stunned: A rough-chiseled guy like Jack afraid?
“I’m no longer afraid of phone calls, of being found out, afraid somebody will figure out what’s going on in my inner life, afraid of some husband confronting me about an affair with his wife.”
I got the picture.
“When I came to faith in Christ and got my life cleaned up,” Jack continued, “fear left my life. That’s the most marvelous thing about following Christ.”
“Perfect love,” writes John, “casts out fear” (1 John 4:18). Jack experienced the love of Christ, Who purified his heart and cleansed it of fear.
