When God Squints

When God Squints
"The Lord is in His holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven; his eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men."
Psalms 11:4

Sometimes when we want to see something more clearly, we squint, and that makes our vision more focused. In Psalm 11 we read that God’s eyelids behold us, and in the Hebrew that actually means that God is squinting at us. He watches us, He sees us, and He examines our hearts. He inspects our every thought and action, even the things we might prefer that no one see or notice. Elsewhere in Scripture we read that God’s eyes run to and fro over the whole earth to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless before Him.

When God looks at those of us who have put on Jesus Christ, He sees you – and He sees me – as His children. Because He loves us, He wants to know that we are standing on the solid rock, the solid foundation that He provides for us in a world that is increasingly unsafe and unstable.
